Development Director

Location: Florida

Duration: Long Term

The Development Director reports to the Executive Director and plans and executes a fundraising plan for donors. 

The Development Director works closely with the Executive Director in creating and implementing a finance plan and supporting the execution of fundraising events. The Development Director is responsible for identifying, cultivating and maintaining relationships with the top donors. 

Applicant must be detail-oriented, possess strong communication and organizational skills, have some political campaign experience, and major gifts experience. Experience in Florida and with 527 non-profits is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities (not a comprehensive list):

  • Plan and execute fundraising events

  • Maintain donor relationships

  • Perform research to identify prospective new major donors and raisers and work to re-engage lapsed donors

  • Create and manage a tracking system for all donors

  • Create and manage a call time program

  • Create and manage a finance email program to keep major donors informed and engaged

  • Providing finance support to the Executive Director as needed

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in related field or relevant work experience

  • 3-4 years of related work experience

  • Strong and engaging interpersonal skills

  • Detail oriented and proficient in Excel/Google Sheets

  • Experience working on campaign or political committee fundraising teams for 2-3 cycles preferred

  • Experience working in Florida preferred

  • Good sense of humor

Fall Field Fellow

Location: Remote/In Person Hybrid

Duration: September 18 - November 22

Sawgrass Progressives is seeking passionate, motivated individuals for our Fall Field Fellowship program. This unique opportunity offers participants a chance to learn valuable organizing skills while working towards achieving progressive goals. Our comprehensive curriculum is designed to provide hands-on experience, with escalating objectives that allow fellows to immediately implement their newly acquired skills. By tracking metrics such as canvassing, phonebanking, textbanking, volunteer recruitment, and retention, fellows will develop crucial skills in organizing.

Responsibilities:

1.    Use a variety of tactics to talk to constituents about their elected officials, in so doing, strengthening community relationships.

2.    Plan, coordinate, and execute on and off-campus events to raise awareness about Sawgrass Progressives and our mission.

3.    Attend meet and greets with influential community leaders, elected officials, and other key partners.

Throughout the program, fellows will participate in weekly check-ins and reporting with Sawgrass Progressives Executive Director, Lisa Straehley. These meetings serve to clarify goals, provide guidance, and ensure fellows stay on track.

Qualifications:

2.    Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

3.    Strong organizational and time-management abilities.

4.    Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

5.    Prior experience in community organizing, event planning, or political campaigns is a plus but not required.
