Our Mission
Sawgrass Progressives helps environmentalists run grassroots campaigns for the state legislature.
By focusing on state legislative races, we’re cutting Florida into small, organizeable chunks.
We’re able to talk to voters about less contentious, but still progressive issues like education, transportation, infrastructure, and recycling.
When we turn out voters who are eager to cast their vote for environmentalist state legislative candidates, we are diminishing the share of voters who turnout to cast their vote for candidates like Ron DeSantis.
Working On The Ground
Florida needs an organization that can focus on building a professional organizing class for state legislative races, giving candidates a grassroots-driven model for their campaigns, supporting and guiding those candidates and their staffs through their work on the ground, and keeping them accountable by holding each campaign to weekly metrics at no cost to the candidates.
Grassroots Strategies
Sawgrass Progressives works with candidates to build donor networks and foster donor relationships that can later be parlayed into relationships with future candidates, the state party, or other local organizations.
We work with campaign managers to handle day-to-day operations for each of these races so that in the next cycle, Florida’s communities will have new professional Democratic operatives who both know how and have the desire to run other political campaigns in their communities.
Building a Movement
Some candidates can afford professionals that offer slick looking services in-house, but not all candidates can afford that approach or feel that it’s the best strategy for their race. This is providing another barrier to enter politics.
Sawgrass Progressives eradicates barriers to entry for potential Democratic legislative candidates and consequently allows Democrats to become a competitive governing faction in Tallahassee in the near future, on the way to flipping the state legislature in the next five to ten years.
